NBA Playoffs and my newest Idol

I always love coming to the US during summer time, well not so much because of the training sessions but mainly because of the complete NBA coverage of the playoffs. All the games are televised either on TNT, ABC, or ESPN. Everyday they show around 2 or 3 games plus pre and post game analysis and highlights.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to watch my favorite player, Steve Nash, this year because they didn't make it to the playoffs. I'm really sad about that because I love the way he plays. But on the upside he now spends a lot of his time blogging and sharing his thoughts on the playoffs and other personal matters like his diet through his facebook profile. Another good thing also is that my other newest idol is still in the running and at the top of his game despite being 32 years old.

Yesterday, I caught part of game 2 of the Denver - New Orleans series. I still can't think of the appropriate words to describe the game of Chauncey Billups. He is my newest idol of course after Steve Nash. I've always been impressed with his style and basketball IQ ever since his Detroit years but these past few games for him have been incredibly amazing! He has been displaying impeccable leadership and experience on the court. When he joined the team last November, he turned it around and created a winning formula! He can score, create, defend but most of all, lead a team that has players with quite an attitude (i.e. Camelo and Kenyon Martin). He hasn't turned the ball over in 12 quarters consecutively. He hasn't missed a free throw (14/14) in the two games. And shot a remarkable 12/15 from 3-points. My favorite facet of his game, is that he doesn't force his shots and scores only when he needs to. Plus, he can create his own shot.

I'm currently rooting for the Lakers and now, Denver. And i won't mind if Denver will go on to the NBA Finals and beat my Lakers since it will be a wonderful fairy tale for Chauncey after spending his high school and college days in Colorado then now going back to his hometown and winning a championship.

I havent watched NBA for so long now.The last time i get to wacth basketball on TV was NBA all stars. I remember watching the tiny black guy (i don't know what his name was) win the Slam dunk competition. The guy even wore the neon green shoes. It was really funny because he beat the defending champion who was so tall compared to him. I don't even recognize some of the players when i played NBA All Stars sa laptop ng friend ko.
My classmate would always mention Nash doing something different with the lay up( with which foot to raise during the layup?). But yeah Nash plays like a monster. And he's definitely plays FAST.

You're a terrific writer Chris! Nash is such a great baller, that I know, but you had me convinced that Billups is an awesome player as well by just reading your entry. He should read this! Good stuff!:)

(I just wondered if you really read all of our comments, 'coz you haven't replied to anyone.)

Anyway, Why not try commentating as well? You know the rules, you're good at players' stats... That's another one for your long list of "things you can do"! Hahaha!:)

btw, will you catch Pacman's match live? I bet you have free tickets. Lucky you!:) Find time to unwind but please stay away from Casinos. Gambling is bad. :) Take care!*hug*

Nice thing to hear. I love NBA as i'm a Lebron James fan. Lucky for you as you can watch NBA live whereas here in Pinas, you have to stick with the TV coverage.
Anyweis, are you going to watch the Pacquiao-Hatton fight?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Chris. I'd have to say, you write really well.ü

I'm not that much of an NBA fan, but I do watch it sometimes. Yup, Nash is great and so as Billups.

I'm just wondering, will you stay there in Vegas till May 2 for Manny's fight? For sure you'll cover it for Pinoy Records, well at least I hope you would.ü

Just to share with you, I visited Fabilioh's site again after so many months. I viewed the pictures of the finals as well as the bonfire and the ring ceremony. It's really nice to reminisce good and happy memories, makes me want to go back through time, especially because we all know that you'll not be playing anymore this season for the Ateneo. Anyhow, we know you're up for greater and greater things, and one of those is being the captain of the Philippine team.ü

I hope you'd soon blog about your games and trainings there in Vegas, just like when you were in Serbia. Looking forward to the pictures too! I'm also wondering if JV still is your room mate, or if someone else was assigned to you. Haha.ü

Stay safe, Chris. We miss you!ü

Woah. You're now in the US? Been globe-trotting, I see. hahaha. Do enjoy summer there. I hope it's not terribly hot like it is here.

Anyway, it's really great to hear from you every now and then especially since you've been low key after the UAAP season. Have you possibly thought of being a part-time commentator for the coming UAAP season? It'd be wonderful to have you back again. =P

wow! i didn't know that ur a fan of Steve Nash. well, he's the best player for me, too. i like his playing styles, except when he licks his fingers before he shoots a free throw. haha ;)
what i like about him most is his attitude towards the game and his co-players. he was never greedy with the ball. he passes it if he can.

chauncey is a great leader...
that is the reason why detroit as of now is struggling since they do not have a legitimate leader...

i also missed steve int he playoffs.. i was all year hoping that may spurs and the suns will meet again for a finals-like battle...

hope san antonio could get throogh and beat la.... peace!

Ever since Chauncey's days, I've admired his talents. He's been a great and intelligent player. I do believe he can help Denver to win the coveted trophy.

But I still want LeBron to win it. If Denver wins, i'll be happy for them.

Good Luck on your training!!!!!

P.S. Will you be watching the Pacquiao vs Hatton fight?

i'm also disappointed that phoenix wasn't able to get into the playoffs but there are other great teams joining. i agree with what you said about chauncey, he really had a great game.

Ling said...

Fellow Adidas guy din yung pick mo, Chris, ha? Well, Chauncey is a good ball player, he really changed Denver. He has more of a point guard than Iverson, which George Karl loves. Go Denver! Beat the Mavs!

During this playoffs, the player that made me notice was Derrick Rose, another Adidas guy.

hey chris! i've watched the game of denver and dallas yesterday. den leads 3-0 against dal. have you watched it, too? what can you say about their game? since they were saying the referee was biased because of not charging foul to the den.
